- Hyderabad cops dread RGI posting
25 May 2013
A posting to RGI Airport police station leaves officers cross-eyed with fear. Three sub-inspectors under posting for over three months stay put because their replacements are not coming. Round-the-clock VIP bandobast is to blame, police say.
Hyderabad: Three sub-inspectors at RGI airport police station — B Kiran Kumar, N Mahesh Goud and M Kashi Viswanath — are tearing their hair in despair these days.
They have been transferred after three years of service in March this year. They were transferred by Cyberabad commissioner Ch Thirumala Rao.
But inspector D Durga Prasad will not relieve them as the station is perpetually short of staff owing to the heavy load of work and constant off-hour bandobast.
Kiran Kumar was transferred to Medchal police station, Mahesh Goud to Maillardevpally police station and Viswanath to Narsingi police station. Police sources revealed that the moment a policeman or officer comes to know of his or her transfer to RGI Airport police station, he or she pulls all strings to get it cancelled or shifted to some other station as the cops there are bound for the entire day and night with the constant flow of VIPs to and from the airport. The police must cover some 15-20km radius of the airport.
The three sub-inspectors have been waiting for the inspector’s relieving orders but they haven’t got them yet. “If they ask, they get to hear an earful,” whispered a policeman at the station.
When contacted, the commissioner said he was not aware of the situation. He said for a uniformed force, posting is a part of life and one can’t refuse to go where duty calls. However, he said he would look into the situation.
